Even those with private balconies are not immune from the regulations that ensure safety and decorum. A half-burning cigarette butt tossed overboard may be blown back into a neighbouring balcony and start a fire. Also the wafting smoke is a dead giveaway and your neighbours will not appreciate the smell of cigarettes. It may look private but balconies on cruise ships are well within earshot of your neighbours.
The cruise balcony. Just knowing that at any time you have your own little quiet space to sit and watch the waves go by is calming — especially when most other places on the cruise ship have people all around you day or night. Step out of your cabin onto the balcony and it looks at first glance like no one would be able to see you unless they were out in the water. The partitions between balconies actually have a ton of room for prying eyes. The bottoms of the partitions are raised off the ground to allow for any water to flow through. Meanwhile, the top of the partitions are relatively short — less than six feet tall — to allow wind to pass over them.
Here's a fun fact: At one point, topless sunbathing was fairly common on cruise ships, and not just those in Europe. On Carnival ships, the top deck around the funnel was well known as place where women could work on their tans, sans lines; that designation seemed to disappear sometime in this recent millennium. In today's era of family-friendly cruising, just what is allowed onboard? We reveal all on this hot topic of topless sunbathing on a cruise ship. Most major cruise lines that cater to North Americans do not permit topless sunbathing onboard their ships.
I apologize if this is inappropriate or not posted in the correct place. My girlfriend and I were just curious if there were any sun decks available for adults only on the Oasis of the Seas and if so, were you allowed to be topless on them? I am trying to remember but I don't recall ever seeing anyone topless on a Royal cruise If you have a balcony cabin, you can pretty much go topless or bottomless whenever the fancy hits you. However, I just wouldn't recommend doing that on a day the ship is in a port.
